Building project

We are building a 'small shed' to store fence, hoses, tools, and so forth. This is step 1 in the process required to refinish our basement and relocate Brian's office so we get our spare bedroom back. Before we can do anything in the basement, we have to be able to get in it! So all of our farm and garden stuff has to find a new home. Plus, we will be able to move the stuff that's currently in the ramshackle building we optimistically call a shed (complete with huge holes in the 'siding,' one corner with no support under it, and a resident population of rats) into the new building and tear down the old one. I am very excited about the building, and we are making good progress. Here's a look!

The building at the end of day 1. Once we decided on a spot (change of plans due to the sloping ground in the original location), things moved along pretty quickly.

The evening of day 2 we had gravel delivered. It was wet, so the truck was not able to drive up to the building. No problem; we just dumped it on the ground. Brian then shoveled it into the bucket of the tractor and dumped it in the building. Then I moved it around the building and leveled the floor. A lot of work. But totally worth it once it was done. There's still a bit of work to go to finish it up, mostly just in the open bay (closest to the house).

Progress after day 3, rafters up on all but one section.

At the end of day 4 all the rafters were in place, all the framing was completed, the door and windows were in, and they started on the siding.

Current state of affairs: after 5 days of work (not consecutive), most of the building is finished. Just a bit of trim, a bit more gravel, and the guttering and drainage work to go. This has turned out better than expected and is going to be a great addition!
