Rainbow

We moved here in December of 2004. The day we hauled in all of our stuff there was a double rainbow that stretched across the entire sky. It was beautiful, and if you are a "signs" kind of person, you might say it was a good sign. Of course, you would have to balance that goodness with the other sign of the day --- a flock of vultures perched in the leafless trees drying their wings. Think dark, scary vampire movie. Yeah, that doesn't seem like a good sign.

We have now lived here over 6 years. In all that time I have never seen another rainbow. The vultures come back after every rain to dry their wings and are here nearly every day gliding in the updrafts and soaring over the river.

The rainbow-less spell has been broken! We've been having frequent showers, and last Friday the conditions lined up just right to produce an amazing rainbow. It was raining on the southwest side of the house as the sun was sinking lower and lower on the horizon.

This is the result:

And just because I'm a history buff and a pack rat who never deletes a file, here are some of the scenes on that first day several years back.
